Many of Chilstone's ornaments and architectural structures have Roman influences, therefore we wanted to highlight this fantastic architectural era. As Roman architecture developed elements of the Greek style and added brand new designs such as arches and domes. The tremors of which can still be felt in contemporary architecture. An example of this kind of Chilstone's work is Alexander House Hotel in West Sussex: Chilstone crafted columns and stonework to form the spectacular spa at the flagship 5 Star house hotel. This wonderful spa was so popular that Chilstone were commissioned to supply more classical stoneware for the lavish Roman baths at the Rowhill Grange Country House Hotel an 18th Century Manor House in Kent, the spa is a dreamscape of honey coloured Roman pillars, a mosaic pool and superb Roman murals. “We are often asked to create custom stoneware by clients from all over the world,” says Chilstone's Sam Walters, “ We can create unique items such as a giant fireplace, or a water feature, and sometimes we are asked to create an entire building as we did recently in the Channel Islands”. Chilstone also take much pride in creating roman inspired ornaments such as pedestals, columns and stone garden seats. We hope you have enjoyed this little glimpse into the inspirations behind some of Chilstone's designs.
