It was 60 years ago today...

[caption id="attachment_1057" align="aligncenter" width="482"] Whatever happened to Packard?[/caption] Chilstone celebrates 60 years since it was founded by antique collector Michael Dibben. If you do not remember 1953, it was the year Queen Elizabeth was crowned and the Prime Minister was the great Winston Churchill. Imagine that, we still have the same Queen! Sir Winston also was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature that year - the only British Prime Minister to receive the honour and probably the only one ever likely to. Famously Mount Everest was conquered and the structure of DNA was finally discovered. Ian Fleming published his first Bond novel Casino Royale - where is James Bond now? Victoria Wood was born, as was Tony Blair and half of the labour opposition. Laura Ashley sold her first printed fabric and The Samaritans was founded. Sweet rationing was finally ended and Chilstone Garden Ornaments sold its first Urn. A vintage year then and we hope that 2013 will bring more of the same.
