Chilstone at Sothebys
Saturday, May 30, 2009
Sothebys auction at Summers Place on Friday May 22nd was the venue for an auction of garden antiques and a number of beautifully weathered pieces of Chilstone were sold. The pieces included a verdant Elizabethan basket jardiniere and a number of other pieces from the Chilstone showgardens. Many of the pieces were in the garden for over 20 years and had stood the test of time. They had weathered to a fine patina and were attractively decked with moss and lichen – particularly desirable in an established garden. One or two will now make their way for a new life in America. Some more weathered pieces can be seen at the Chilstone showgardens.
